STEPPING OUT OF THE SAME RIVER AGAIN

A young and talented sociologist is to leave Hungary with his family to gain more academic freedom in the year of 2019. 
 

I do not know him, but I know the feeling.
 

There were waves of intellectual émigrés from Hungary in the Horthy era of the 1920-30ies as well as in the Kadar era of the post 1956 period. Now we live in the Orban era - and here we go again, or rather here they go again.

So, it seems, Panta Rhei - everything moves - is questioned in Central Europe. If one reads the reasons for the departure of Károly Takács as well as his detailed analysis on the attitude of the present political regime towards academic life in Hungary, one has the impression, that - contrary to the statement of Heraclitus - the river is the same.

It is you, who's got to move.
